This is a collaboration piece with Niwaki
———————-
To celebrate our collaboration over the last two years, Natsko Seki has produced this A2 poster, with some of my favourite trees from Japan. You may have met them before on the Niwaki blog and in our catalogue - there's the enormous Camphor tree at the Atsuta shrine in Nagoya, the extraordinary Podocarpus, that would be a monkaburi if only there was a gateway to frame, cherry blossom, maples and of course the Niwaki favourite, the Dai Sugi Cryptomeria.
I first came across Natsko three years ago and was struck by the slightly surreal collage effect she creates, coupled with an extraordinary attention to detail and beautiful, very Japanese colours. Most of all, though, it’s her handling of trees and foliage that grabbed me — the abstract shapes and patterns she reads into Cryptomeria branches and cherry blossom, along with everyday life in Japan.
These come delivered rolled in a stout tube, and look best framed.
